Baptism card

Okay, this is nowhere near what anyone would say screams baptism.  But it's for my 10-month old nephew, who I've taken to calling Donald Trump.  He has so much hair and it always seems to be at the front/top of his head.  He's adorable and all boy, so I wanted to use this cute little puppy.

10 Minute Craft Dash Challenge

A couple of the blogs I read were involved in a blog hop for the 10 Minute Craft Dash Challenge.  Since I tried this before on my online card class, I knew where I messed up last time.  This time, I had a plan... Which doesn't always translate from my head to paper, but oh well.  Only way to get better is to practice.
My first card, I think it needs something, but I couldn't figure out what it was, so I did the dash lines.  I had 11 seconds left.
The second attempt was faster, still not quite happy with it, but I think I like it better than the first.  I had 1:43 left, but decided to quit while I was ahead.  Oh geez, I'd gotten so used to posting from my computer where it auto rotates my pictures, that i forgot i couldn't do that from here.  I'll try to fix it later.

Summer Card Camp 2 - Week 3, Day 5

Additional color combos for today....

Summer Card Camp 2 - Week 3, Day 4

Today's challenge was to do something you don't normally do... well, here it is.  All kinds of flowery floral stuff.  GIRLY stuff :D

Summer Card Camp 2 - Week 3, Day 3

Here's my card for today... The flower is in a "window" that's been added with dimensionals to give a shadow.

I couldn't decide on making the brown strip skinnier and putting all the butterflies in a line, but this is what my son picked, so we went with it.

Summer Card Camp 2 - Week 3, Day 1

New week means new color combos and new sketches...

Here's my card:

Summer Card Camp 2 - Week 3, Day 2

Today was die-cutting techniques...my goal was to do a patchwork piece of paper and then die cut the letters out of the patchwork.  That would have been great if I'd noticed that my alphabet die was one die and not individual letters.  Teaches me to read the packaging first ;)  Oh well... I now have lots of purple letters.

So instead, I clear embossed the letters in "happy" and used those.  I then found the tealish alpha stickers which sorta matched the color combinations.

The butterfly is stamped with Tide Pool ink on vellum and then clear embossed over it.

Summer Card Camp 2 - Week 2 Day 5

New color combos!!  I got out my inks ahead of time so I could try and remember my colors today.

I did a tri-fold card like Jennifer's flower-edged card.  I'm trying to decide if it needs a light green "stitching" around the edges.  I'm leaving it alone for now.

So the little cupcakes flip up and the yellowish star/dot pattern folds down.

Summer Card Camp 2 - Week 2, Day 4

So today's challenge was to "Stretch your holiday" and use some holiday stamps in a non-holiday card.

Of course, again, I finished stamping a background and realized it wasn't in the color combo.  So I started all over.  I didn't have a good excuse for this one.

I realized just how bad the green paper the sentiment is on does NOT match when I look at the pictures.  Oh well ;)  Maybe I'll redo it before I give it away.

Summer Card Camp 2 - Week 2, Day 3

Wednesday's class was Inspiration from Guest Artists.  I chose to do the shaker card.  As with a couple of the days, I completely forget to use the color combo until halfway through.  Since I'd already started and this was for a little girl with cancer, I decided I got a pass ;)

So here's my card....

Catching up...

EEP... I needed to catch up on my homework from the Summer Card Camp 2.  So I'm almost caught up with making the cards, now I just have to post them :D

So here's day two's card.  We covered stamping techniques.  Using a stamp (or back of a stamp in my case) kind of like a paintbrush.  The banner is a watercolor paper that has Distress Inks "dragged" with a stamp.  I think it needs another flower to make the "triangle", but I couldn't figure out where to put it.

Day three was Inspiration from Guest Artists... instead of finding some paper to match the colors I needed, I just inked my own.

Day four was a 10 Minute Card challenge.  Most days, it takes me 10 minutes to clean off my workspace to even start on a card.  So I cleaned off my space, got out my supplies and did a "colored" die cut to inlay into the card.  Only my ink wasn't dry enough and so the color seeped out a bit onto the card front.  Definitely a nifty idea though.  I'll just have to work on it.  I didn't make it in 10 minutes, but it was more like 12.

So then I decided to try another 10 minute challenge.  Except I'd never used this die before.  Excuses, excuses, I know.  But seriously, I tried!!  Ended up being 13 minutes.  It's not my favorite.

So just when I'm getting used to these color combos, they give us 11,000 more to choose from.  Just kidding... it was more like 6.  But then I had to CHOOOOOOSE.  I'd rather have someone choose for me.  I'm not liking this too much, you can't see/read the embossing.  Oh well, I'll figure out another way to fix it.

On to week 2... new colors!  New sketches!  I was just getting to like the old ones ;)

So here's my circle card.  Not bad if I do say so myself... had fun with the embossing of the background and the coloring with Distress Inks.  Those are my new favorite toys!

Week two, day two was embossing.  They showed an awesome way to emboss over your stamped designs and add in a background.  I wanted to use these butterflies, but couldn't figure out a way to emboss over them so the whole butterfly would be embossed.  Then I thought back to one of the earlier lessons... flip over the stamp!!  These weren't clear stamps, but those cling type/rubber.  They wouldn't stick to my block when I put em on backwards, so I improvised and did it by hand.  Cut out the center piece and then used two small strips to fake mat it.

So I'm all caught up to yesterday.  Today's lesson looks AWESOME!  But I had to make a cake for someone's birthday, so I haven't gotten to start playing with my paper yet.

Summer Card Camp 2

Today is the first day of my first card class.  Today we were given a set of colors and 3 sketches to choose from.

The card is white cardstock, and I used some watercolor paper for the reddish pink/yellow/orange bits.  I used Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick, Barn Door, Dried Marigold, Spiced Marmalade, Scattered Straw, and Mustard Seed.  The sentiment and butterfly are stamped in Hero Arts Tide Pool.  The butterfly is from a Hero Arts die and stamp set, and the sentiment is from Hero Arts, too.  The brownish outline is just a watercolor pencil because that's what was handy.

I think it took me longer to type up this post than it did to make the card.  I need to get some thicker cardstock since I usually put more layers on to stabilize, but I'm actually not too disappointed in this one.
